Wedding costs
Not related to photography but I thought this was kind of interesting: http://bridepop.com/everything-else/weddings-by-the-numbers-infograph/
Basically, if you want to have a cheap wedding, go to Las Vegas or Los Angeles. I guess it kind of sucks to be a wedding vendor in these areas because of low cost margins. If on the other hand you're a wedding vendor, San Francisco or San Jose may be a cash cow! In fact, people in Northern Cal pay nearly TWICE as much for their weddings as people in Southern Cal. What's up with that? Is it because of all these spoiled rich dot-comers that have too much money to waste? Or is it the fact that there are simply too many wannabe photographers in the Los Angeles area who aspire to shoot movie stars and such? I don't know. I can only guess from the numbers. Anyways, of the total cost of weddings, about 23% of the entire budget is allocated for photography/videography. Whoa!!! That's a whopping $3691 spent on video/photos per wedding! Wow.

I know LA is 'cheaper' but it's still hard for me to think of a day that costs >$20K as 'cheap' :)
LOL hopefully it's a one time cost, in which case, $20K out of a life time saving should be less than 1% of your lifetime earning :)
I wonder what's the cost for Hawaii and Alaska.
The cost varies wildly with the particular city in a county you're looking at. For example, one part of LA could be super cheap, and another part of LA could be super expensive. The chart basically looks at surrounding cities and rely on http://costofwedding.com to average out the numbers. Having that said, if you look at individual cities (which is a sample that is not representative of the entire state), you get some ideas:
Honolulu: couples that live in Honolulu, HI 96801 spend between $22,336 and $37,226 for their wedding. This does not include cost for a honeymoon or engagement ring.
Anchorage: couples that live in Anchorage municipality, AK 99501 spend between $21,112 and $35,187 for their wedding. This does not include cost for a honeymoon or engagement ring.
Los Angeles (down-town): couples that live in Florence-Graham, CA 90001 spend between $9,485 and $15,808 for their wedding. This does not include cost for a honeymoon or engagement ring.
San Francisco: couples that live in San Francisco, CA 94102 spend between $33,963 and $56,604 for their wedding. This does not include cost for a honeymoon or engagement ring.
